Dear Norman: Thank you for posting your question. An evaluation is needed (by a neurologist) to find the cause of the headache and the other symptoms. If all is ruled out, then it is a primary headache (like migraines) for which we have good acute and preventive treatments and recommendations.

I suffer from Headaches, pretty much my whole life, I get them right over my right eye. They are excruiatingly painful, I can't remember where I leave things and become very ill. I am now suffering tingling in my right hand and my feet. What can I do, should I go see a neurologist?

I appreciate the comments to my blog. My comments are based on my experience as a medical doctor, a practicing psychiatrist, a public educator working with the media for many years, and a clinical researcher. I fully support the American Psychiatric Association’s decision to issue their statement to protect children from being used in these kinds of shows.

The scientific evidence for the benefits of brain exercise is starting to mount, and will soon be indisputable.

The latest groundbreaking study came from a team of researchers at Michigan and Bern --- Susanne Jaeggi and Martin Buschkuehl's study on Improving Fluid Intelligence by Training Working Memory (PNAS April 2008) recorded increases in mental agility (fluid intelligence) of more than 40% less than 20 days of focused brain training.

I was so impressed that I contacted the research team and developed a software program using the same method so that anyone can achieve these improvements at home.

My son had surgery for epilepsy when he was 5 years old. He was seizure free for 3 and a half years. He then started having seizures again. Before the first surgery he had an internal EEG. Last Fall he had a Magnito insefallo (I have no idea how to spell it) scan to pinpoint where the seizures were coming from. This takes place of the internal EEG. It showed that all around the surgery spot is scar tissue and that scar tissue is now causing seizures. We are considering surgery again to remove that scar tissue. Will this be an unending cycle now?
