For years, doctors have known that when pregnant women took the antiseizure medication valproate, which is the second-most-popular antiseizure medication, their unborn children face an increased risk of developmental delays and major malformations.

Do you keep Track of your Medications? It can be life-saving.

Antiepileptic drugs are prescribed to treat the most common type of seizures, but they are far from ideal for older people or people with multiple health issues who may also be taking other prescription medications. Medications interact with each other and with other medicines, and such interactions are common and can be dangerous.  Keeping track of your medications can be life-saving.

Suicide risk with epilepsy drugs explored by FDA

In January, we received communication from the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) that they would be reviewing the safety of a number of epilepsy drugs.  This was a result of a study that showed that the drugs increased patients’ risk of suicidal thoughts and behavior.
